Results from the August 18th Primaries in Alaska, Florida, and Wyoming

Toplines
Alaska
- Former U.S. Representative Mary Peltola (D) will advance to the general election for U.S. Senate in Alaska. She will challenge incumbent U.S. Senator Dan Sullivan (R) in a general election contest currently rated as a toss-up by Cook Political Report. If successful, Peltola would be the first Native American/Alaska Native/Native Hawaiian woman in the U.S. Senate and the first Democratic woman to serve in the U.S. Senate from Alaska.
- Of Alaska's top two U.S. House primary finishers, none are women; one (1D) woman is still in contention for the final two spots in the top-four general election for the state’s lone House district.
- In Alaska’s top-four primary contests for governor and lieutenant governor:
- Bernadette Wilson (R) finished in the top three for governor; three (3R) women candidates remain in the pool of candidates vying to advance in the final spot in Alaska’s top-four primary.
- Julia Hnilicka (D) is 1 of 2 (50%) nominees selected in the primary for lieutenant governor. Three (2R, 1NP) women candidates remain in the pool of candidates vying to advance to the final two spots in Alaska’s top-four primary.
Florida
- Incumbent state Representative Angie Nixon (D) won the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate in Florida. She will challenge incumbent U.S. Senator Ashley Moody (R), who won the Republican primary for the seat she was appointed to in 2025, in an all-woman general election contest currently rated as “Solid Republican” by Cook Political Report. If successful, Nixon will be the first Democratic woman and first Black person to represent Florida in the U.S. Senate. - Women are 19 of 55 (34.5%) major-party nominees for U.S. House in Florida, including 12 of 28 (42.9%) Democrats and 7 of 27 (25.9%) Republicans.
- Of the 7 (3D, 4R) women House incumbents running for re-election, all but 1 (1D) are currently favored to win in November. Women currently hold 8 of 28 (28.6%) seats in the Florida delegation to the U.S. House; incumbent U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson (D) did not run for re-election this year.
- Incumbent U.S. Representative Kathy Castor (D) is running for re-election in a contest currently rated as “Lean Republican” by Cook Political Report.
- Of the 12 (9D, 3R) non-incumbent women nominees for U.S. House, all but 2 (1D, 1R) are in contests that currently favor their opponents.
- Sydney Gruters (R) is currently favored to win in the open-seat contest in Florida’s 16th Congressional District.
- Pia Dandiya (D) won the Democratic nomination in an open-seat contest in Florida’s 22nd Congressional District that is currently rated as “Lean Republican” by Cook Political Report.
- Of the 7 (3D, 4R) women House incumbents running for re-election, all but 1 (1D) are currently favored to win in November. Women currently hold 8 of 28 (28.6%) seats in the Florida delegation to the U.S. House; incumbent U.S. Representative Frederica Wilson (D) did not run for re-election this year.
- Women are 1 of 8 (12.5%) major-party nominees for statewide elective executive office in Florida.
- Former state Senator Annette Taddeo (D) won the Democratic nomination for chief financial officer. She will challenge incumbent CFO Blaise Ingoglia (R) in November.
Wyoming
- Incumbent U.S. Representative Harriet Hageman (R) won the Republican nomination for U.S. Senate in Wyoming. She is strongly favored to replace current incumbent Senator Cynthia Lummis (R) in a general election contest that is currently rated as “Solid Republican” by Cook Political Report.
- Former State Senator Lisa Kinney (D) won the Democratic nomination for Wyoming’s at-large district to the U.S. House. The open-seat contest is currently rated as “Solid Republican” by Cook Political Report. If successful, she would be the first Democratic woman to represent Wyoming in the U.S. Congress.
- Women are 2 of 8 (25%) major-party nominees for statewide elective executive office in Wyoming. Incumbent Auditor Kristi Racines (R) is currently unopposed in her bid for re-election. Ana Cordova won the Democratic nomination for superintendent of public instruction.
